Grumsh and the Orc menace
Grumsh is an elder God who tried to usurp the power of the other deities (Corellon, Moradiin and Pelor) in an ancient war. He created a race he felt would be a master race over the creations of the others and set it loose on their world while he and his strongest allies attacked the other deities in an epic Gods War. During the war, one of the gods took out Grumsh’ eye during the fight. Also, the deities of the Gnomish race were killed in the initial attack when the deities were surprised by the attack. To this day the Gnome race has not achieved much more than savagery equal to goblins or kobolds. Grumsh and his forces were defeated, and as punishment for the near-apocalypse he caused in the world he was cast down from God-hood. He was too powerful for the gods to take away his immortality completely but they warded the Planes from him.
Grumsh fell to the earth in the centre of the great continent. His fall destroyed much of the centre of the continent and desecrated the ground, making it so nothing would ever grow in that section. For centuries he lay dormant, slowly regaining his strength while the races of Men, Elves and Dwarves (and Halflings!) (but no Gnomes) grew in strength and formed kingdoms and nations. Eventually his “master race”, the Orc, began multiplying in the Gray Waste as the centre of the continent came to be known. Every decade or so a great horde of these creatures will attempt to overrun a nation, seemingly at random. The orcs are a savage race, giving no quarter and expecting none. The slaughter all in their path, every living creature. They have even been known to rip up trees and burn grasslands in their quest to destroy their creator’s enemies.
[There are no “dieties” here, only deities. Spelling lives count!]
